Museum shop

Design meets

sustainability, regionality and creativity

The museum shop offers an exclusive selection of local design, artistic and handicraft products, where you can find objects made by a social cooperative and products developed exclusively for our shop from the Faculty of Design and Art of the Free University of Bolzano.  The new concept of our shop, is based on three ideas: sustainability, regionality and the involvement of creative minds in or from our country.

In the winter semester 2018/2019 a project was started together with the Faculty of Design and Art of the Free University of Bolzano. Under the direction of Kuno Prey, the students created design products, from which a selection was made for the shop and is now part of our assortment. Some of the design products were produced by the social cooperative VergissMeinNicht. In addition, the employees produce upcycling bags from the tarpaulins waving on the fort pylons. However, there are also products from the social cooperative in the shop.

The young South Tyrolean craftswoman Julia Erlacher gives new life to old glass bottles in the form of glasses and water jugs. The design and furnishing of the sales room was carried out by ruralurban furniture manufacturers. Their modern design fits into the old structure of the fort, new and old adapted furniture fits perfectly into the room. In our shop you will also find numerous souvenirs and gadgets designed by the graphic designer Cornelia Hasler especially for the Franzensfeste fortress. The South Tyrolean label CORA Happywear has been producing sustainable, fair fashion for years and has developed a T-shirt series for children and adults especially for the museum shop. The children’s shirts feature animals that can be found in the Fortress: Mice, rabbits and snails. The T-shirts for adults combine the architecture and history of the Fortress with modern graphics in their design.
