The opening of the first edition of the Fort Biennale will take place on Friday 5 July.
In the first edition of the Fort Biennale, the works of 35 artists investigate the various dimensions of language within the politics of identity and the body, between digital, human, interspecies and non-linguistic. Its title In the Body of Language describes both the conceptual and sensorial environment that is explored and concurrently, our state of being – in that it is impossible to separate the mental from the physical. By permitting the expression of the communicable part of our experience and understanding of the world, language is a means of participation – one with revolutionary potential. It builds worlds within and around us; it both connects and divides. As such, it is alive, in constant flux, and reflective of the political and social upheavals of our time.
