In the frame of Kids Culture Festival with students from the Michael Pacher secondary school and teachers Manuela Ciuca and Yvonne Rigger

In this workshop with the South Tyrolean Jazz singer Marion Feichter and the Austrian rapper Yasmo, young people can learn to vent and channel their frustration by verbalising it and transforming it into something resonant. Inspired by the work of the Brixner Beschwerdechor (Brixen Complaints Choir), the collective laments of the young people will be voiced together and presented in a polyphonic, cross-generational performance which will be supported by beats, samples, lyrics, own instruments and suitable music apps.

Workshop

Kids Culture Club
In Autumn 2024, the Kids Culture Festival will take place for the second time, offering a diverse, free and young cultural programme for six weeks throughout South Tyrol, with stops in Tyrol and Trentino. The initiative, launched by Nina Maccariello and Kathrin Oberrauch, activates new approaches to contemporary cultural work for children and young people. The creative programme ranges from music and performance, photography and film, as well as architecture and design. With its interdisciplinary and transversal approach, the Kids Culture Club aims to encourage workshop participants to trust their inner voice and foster the development of their personality. With a free and multilingual programme, the Kids Culture Festival aims to contribute to greater social justice in education through low-threshold cultural mediation.

Marion Feichter is a singer based in Vienna. She has been a lecturer of Jazz Singing at the Innsbruck Conservatory and the Mozarteum Innsbruck since 2023. In addition to the release of her album “The Age Of Unease”, Marion Feichter works with her funk band GrooveClub Collective.

Yasmo is a Viennese rapper and poet. She has been conquering the stages since 2007 and in 2009 she became German-speaking champion in the U20 Poetry Slam. She tours the world with her texts. With her band “Yasmo & die Klangkantine” she released her fifth studio album “Laut & Lost” in 2023, for which she was nominated for the Amadeus Austrian Music Award. She also co-curated the Popfest Wien 2019 and the Kultursommer 2021 & 2022.

Complaints Choir
The ancient choir was the mouthpiece of the people. For almost 20 years, complaint choirs have been emerging all over the world, testing democracy in a contemporary and live way. The principle is simple: citizens share their complaints, and the choirs bring them as songs to the stage, in streets, squares and more. Singing together is healthy for body and soul, makes you happy and creates a feeling of connection. For this reason, Adolf Engl, ideator, doctor and president of Dekadenz in Brixen/Bressanone, wanted to found the choir. In addition, loud showing off, whining and complaining is often the first step towards a solution. Since October 2023, the 26-member Brixen Complaints Choir has been raising its voice loudly in response to social discontent.
